I FINALLY made it out to see the Hobbit tonight! Surrounded by three people who had never seen the other movies or read the book I was the only on with his expectations. I'm rating different aspects of it and tell you why.
Overall: 5 out of 10
Effects/Visual: 10 out of 10
It was a beautifully made movie. The effects were convincing and very polished. The sets were breathtaking. I wished I could go to Rivendell. It was magical. The caves were creepy. The colors were SPLENDID.
Story: 4 out of 10
It doesn't stick to the book. It was very childish and confusing. It was very different from the original three LOTR movies. Peter Jackson, you let me down. It should have all been made into one movie.
Characters: 8 out of 10
There were changes in how much attention each character got and their personalities but it added to the movie.
The BEST part was the Riddle Game scene. It was my favorite part in the book and it was done perfectly in the movie!
What I really didn't like was how immature and unrealistic it got. Living after falling down hundreds of feet on rock? Not getting hurt by the rock giants? PLEASE!
I'm really surprised about how you reviewed the Hobbit. I loved it so much. Ah well...
ReplyDeleteEveryone would wish they could go to Rivendell. I want to live there. I think the story stuck to the book pretty well, and added some more, just so that we'd get a better understanding of how it ties into LOTR and weave a bigger piece.
The characters needed to be unique so people can remember them, and Peter did a great job of doing so even if it wasn't in the book. Something awesome added, in my opinion.
One of my fav parts is the riddle, too :) Another is the near ending, even though it wasn't really part of the book.
For your questions... my answer is... they're dwarves. they're tough and full of determination to reclaim their home. I don't recall falling down hundred feet of rock (i may have a bad memory :P) but the rock giant ones seemed pretty real to me, though it may be better with a few cuts and bruises.

The book is different. My opinion has changed though, after looking into it more. The Hobbit was written for younger audiences so I agree more with you now. That Avengers was amazing!
